The interfaith Prison Partnership (IPP) is an organization headquartered in Westchester and is an official partnership of the Hudson River Presbytery. The mission of IPP is to support the 800+ residents of the two women's prisons located one hour from Cold Spring in Bedford, NY- the Taconic Correctional facility and Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. IPP organizes several programs to support the prison residents as well as the staff working in the prison facilities (interfaithprisonpartnership.org).
Our church members are involved in supporting two specific IPP initiatives - holiday care packages and release bags.
"Care Package" contents (soap, shampoo, socks, etc.) are donated by participating organizations, assembled, and then hand-delivered to all 800+ prison residents in the month of December. Along with the donated products, every care package includes a handwritten note of support, letting the recipient know that there is someone who is thinking about them and praying for them.
"Release Bag" contents are collected and assembled in much the same way as the care packages and are provided to prisoners who have completed their sentences and are about to leave prison. Many women leaving the Taconic and Bedford facilities are released to homeless shelters. The release bag contains products that are meant to offer support and comfort as the recipient begins to acclimate to life on the outside. As with the care packages, every release bag includes a handwritten note of support. Approximate 350 release bags are donated to the two prisons every year.
Anyone interested in assisting in supporting our effort, with IPP is encouraged to reach out to us at [email protected]
