Adult Education
Adult Study Group
Our Adult Study Group meets in the comfortable and intimate setting of our church library on Sundays at 9 am from September to May, just before the weekly worship service. Generally, each study group session will run for 6 to 8 weeks, and each session is centered on a particular book that we all read. Our group activities and discussions are guided by study group members, by Reverend Doris Chandler, or by one of our parish associates.
Our Adult Study Group is a wonderful opportunity for learning, reflection, and discussion as we share insights and opinions on diverse topics of concern to us all as people of faith and citizens of the world. Join us for one or more Sundays in any Study Group session -- it's up to you!
Our Current Session is "Interrupting Silence: Explore Ways to Speak Truth to Power"
Every Sunday from April 15 to May 20 at 9 a.m. All are welcome.
Silence is a complex matter. Silence can be found in holiness, prayer, grace, and meditation. But silence can also be oppression when those in power aim to silence voices of dissent. Walter Brueggemann urges us to speak up against injustice in his book Interrupting Silence. He shows us how the Bible is full of stories of marginalized people interrupting silence to speak truth to power.
Contemplative Prayer Group: Early morning meditations on Wednesdays
Our Contemplative Prayer Group meets in the comfortable and intimate setting of our church library from 7 to 8 am each Wednesday morning and shares readings, silent meditation, prayer, and discussion. This group is open to anyone -- simply walk in to try this experience. No registration necessary, but if you would like additional information, email us at 1presbyterian@gmail.com.
