First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown
Chancel Choir
Picture
Our wonderful Chancel Choir brings music and joy to Sunday morning services throughout the year. These volunteer artists generally meet on Thursday evenings to rehearse with Director of Music Tom McCoy. Our choir performs both classical and contemporary sacred music from many traditions.  New choir members are always welcome! For more information, contact our church office at 1presbyterian@gmail.com or (845) 265-3220.

Jazz Vespers

Experience Jazz Vespers, a contemporary concert worship service performed on select Saturdays throughout the year. Jazz Vespers features professional jazz musicians, including talented Philipstown friends and neighbors.

Vespers is an ancient service of evening prayer, practiced by many denominations. The word comes from the Greek ἑσπέρα (hespera), and the Latin vesper, meaning "evening."
The concept of Jazz Vespers originated in New York City in the 1960s. It was an outreach program for people who were seeking an alternative to Sunday morning church services -  including musicians who work late on Saturday nights, and the music-lovers who stay out late to listen to them play!

Jazz Vespers can include prayer, meditation, and spoken verse along with live jazz. Together, we take a journey through an ancient evening service of prayer in a modern, creative, informal, and multi-sensory way.

Music Appreciation Sunday: Annual Celebration in June

Music is a vital part of congregational life at FPCP!

Director of Music Tom McCoy is an accomplished jazz pianist who curates the most wonderfully diverse, beautiful, and inspiring music programs for our services throughout the year. Music at FPCP is performed by Tom, our chancel choir, and by musicians from our congregation and community.

Each year in June, we host a Music Appreciation Sunday to celebrate Tom, our choir members, and all of the musicians who bless us with their time and talent all year long. Thank you!
