Philipstown Food Pantry

Picture
Your donations to the Philipstown Food Pantry are always appreciated,  but this is especially true during the current COVID-19 health crisis.

Our Food Pantry mission is more critical than ever. We're serving 150% more people than last year and the numbers continue to grow. The Food Pantry is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers from our church and the greater Philipstown community. That means 100% of every donation is used to purchase nutritious food for your neighbors in need.

Read below to learn about other ways to support the Food Pantry!  Our dedicated team of volunteers is working hard to keep the Pantry open every Saturday from 9-10 am during COVID-19. We are grateful to all volunteers, donors, local business partners, and elected officials for supporting our efforts to fight hunger in our community. Special thanks to our local Mask Makers Guild for sewing the protective masks that help keep our volunteers safe each week. For more info, email us here!

Our Church is Home to the Philipstown Food Pantry.

Every Saturday, FPCP becomes the front line in the local fight against hunger when our Food Pantry opens from 9-10 am at our church on 10 Academy Street. Enrollment is open to all Philipstown residents experiencing hardship during COVID-19. Enrollment forms in English are here, and in Spanish here. Forms are also available at the Pantry each week.

On average, 50 local families are enrolled at the Pantry. Our numbers jumped 150% due to COVID-19. On Saturdays, we supply clients with a three-day supply of nutritious food. Food insecurity is always serious issue. Now, it's a growing problem as many businesses remain closed, and many residents are experiencing layoffs, illness, and other challenges.

The Pantry is able to offer much-needed fresh seasonal produce and protein thanks to a network of amazing donors and business partners including: Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming, Glynwood's CSA program, Foodtown of Cold Spring, and Vera's Marketplace & Garden Center.

The Pantry started 30+ years ago on our pastor's porch. Now it's a town-wide effort, thanks to support from area businesses and nonprofits, local faith communities, our elected officials, and friends and neighbors just like you! We want to take this opportunity thank all of the dedicated volunteers who come to the Pantry every Saturday and who work tirelessly behind the scenes all year to serve our neighbors in need. Bless you all!

Help fight hunger in our community. Support the Philipstown Food Pantry! Here's how:

1) Make a financial contribution. The Food Pantry is operated entirely by dedicated volunteers. That means 100% of your donation will purchase food to keep our Pantry fully stocked to serve neighbors in need. Making a tax-deductible contribution to the Pantry is easy! Just use the gold "Donate" button on the top of this page.

2) Donate food, or your Foodtown points. We are grateful for donations of fresh, frozen, packaged, and canned foods. You can also donate Foodtown points and gift certificates to the Pantry -- just speak with staff at the Cold Spring grocery store. To donate food, or to find out what food items are currently needed, email the Pantry here. If you're on Facebook, like/follow our FB page and the Pantry's FB page so you can read Pantry posts in your newsfeed!

3) Sponsor a Food Drive. Is your child or grandchild in a youth group like Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, a sports team, a confirmation class, or bar/bat mitzvah class? A Food Drive to benefit the Pantry is a great community service project! Email us here for information, and we will be glad to help you plan your food drive!

4) Volunteer at the Pantry. Join us at our historic church on 10 Academy Street in Cold Spring  on Friday afternoons when we set up the Pantry. Or, come during open hours on Saturday mornings to assist our clients who need help finding items or carrying shopping bags. When the Pantry closes, volunteers put away supplies and re-stock Pantry carts and shelves for the following week. NOTE: During COVID-19, there are special volunteer protocols to ensure everyone's safety. To learn more, please email the Pantry's Coordinators here.

5) Help us renovate our community kitchen to support Pantry operations year-round. FPCP is raising funds to for a much-needed renovation to our community kitchen in 2020-21. Plans include sturdy, rolling shelves as well as new refrigerator/freezers for storing Food Pantry supplies, plus improved work surfaces, flooring, lighting, and appliances. Learn more here.

Thank you!

The Food Pantry is especially grateful to Foodtown for its strong support during Covid-19. Foodtown donated store gift cards to help support people in our community who are experiencing food insecurity during this challenging time.

Local scout troops are faithful supporters of the Food Pantry!
Every year, our local scouts organize food drives to collect non-perishables for the Food Pantry -- and COVID-19 hasn't stopped them! Below, Boy Scout Troop 437 of Philipstown makes a safe delivery to the Pantry in spring 2020.
