Experience the journey of Lent and the joy of Easter through prayer, meditation, communion, music, and celebration with your friends at First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown, 10 Academy Street, Cold Spring, NY!
Our theme for Lent this year is "Wilderness." Lent begins in the wilderness. The Spirit guides Jesus into the wilderness where he comes face to face with temptation and struggle. In forty days of fasting, resisting, and wandering, Jesus is shaped and formed for his ministry.
Similarly, through the wilderness of Lent, we are invited to surrender to the wild leadings of the Spirit. Join us on this journey, as we explore the theme of wilderness in poetry, scripture, and song at our 10:30 am services each Sunday of Lent, beginning on March 1. Communion will be served each Sunday, and all are welcome at the table.
April 5: Palm Sunday. At our 10:30 am service, eco-palm leaves will be distributed, and we'll enjoy the annual Easter Pageant, created and performed by our youth (photo, bottom right). Also, see Labyrinth below!
April 5: Palm Sunday. From 6-8 pm in our Fellowship Hall, a meditative Labyrinth Walk will be guided by Lynn Brown (photo of Labyrinth Walk, right).
April 9: Maundy Thursday. At 7 pm, we will recall the Last Supper at our Tenebrae Service, traditionally conducted in growing darkness.
April 10: Good Friday. At 12 noon, we will gather at St. Mary's-in-the-Highlands Episcopal Church in Cold Spring for an ecumenical community service.
April 12: Easter Sunday. Our 10:30 am Celebration Service features special music by our Chancel Choir, chamber music, and guest soloists with Director of Music Tom McCoy at the piano. As our Celebration Service comes to an end, we will all sing Handel's Hallelujah Chorus together! Then all the little folk will flock to the church lawn for our annual FPCP Easter Egg Hunt!
