First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown

First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown (FPCP)

This is our Pre-Pandemic Page. It's a snapshot of many wonderful things we always did together, in person, before COVID-19.
This is also our Post-Pandemic Page, because we will do these wonderful things together, again, when it's safe to gather.

We miss spending Sunday mornings in our historic sanctuary; hearing gorgeous music by Tom and the Chancel Choir; having coffee and a chat in the fellowship hall; seeing children in our Sunday school room; cooking in the kitchen; and working on mission and outreach and education and Green Team projects in our building and in our community. Most of all, we miss that joyful and peaceful feeling of seeing you in person, singing and praying and laughing, all of us together.

But we're also proud of what our small but mighty congregation has managed to do during this health and economic crisis. We're still helping neighbors in need, still working and praying together as a community, still learning and growing. And that's a beautiful thing. Until we can gather in person: Be well, be safe. Enjoy this snapshot of the past and future!

When it's safe to gather at our sanctuary:
Come and see us one Sunday morning!

Bring the whole family to our 10:30 am Sunday service. All are welcome! Children will enjoy:

* Nursery Care: Available for babies and toddlers during Sunday services in our library, just steps away from the service
* Sunday School: Joyful learning and sharing with our Sunday School teachers during the second half of the service.
* Youth Sermon: Beautiful stories and life lessons, as children of all ages join in a conversation with the pastor
 * Coin collection for the Goat Bank: A children's mission to collect quarters that will help buy essential livestock for families in need

Sunday services are just one way to meet us. On this website, you'll find many other ways that we engage, learn, affirm, celebrate, and help each other at FPCP. Like and follow us on Facebook to meet our wonderful online community. Join our email list to receive e-blasts and our digital newsletter -- just complete the handy sign-up form at the bottom of this page!

Our Sunday School is a creative, child-centered, thoughtful, and fun way to learn about being kind and loving to ourselves and each other. All children and youth are welcome to drop in any Sunday.

Opportunities to learn, grow, and share. . .when it's safe to gather together.
YOUTH EDUCATION
Our Sunday School welcomes all children and youth in our community from Pre-K to Grade 8 from September to June. You do not have to be a member of our church, or any church, to participate! We invite your children to "drop in" any Sunday. Classes meet during the second half of our 10:30 worship services at 10 Academy Street in Cold Spring. This spring, our Sunday school students will also create and participate in a very special Easter pageant.

We also welcome new teachers! You don't have to be a parent or grandparent to teach. Everyone has stories and wisdom to share! Volunteer teachers can sign up right here.

ADULT EDUCATION
Adult Study Series: Drop-ins welcome every Sunday at 9 am!
Our Adult Study Group enjoys lively, informal gatherings in the church library at 9 am on Sundays, just before the 10:30 am service. Join us! For more information about our Adult Study program, contact Lynn at lebnab@optonline.net.

MEDITATION
Contemplative Prayer Group: Weekly early-morning meditations
Drop-ins welcome every Wednesday at 7 am!

Community members are invited to drop in to this quiet hour of prayer and meditation in our library at the First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown. Take time for grace in the middle of the work week. The core concept of Contemplative Prayer is to "Be still and know I am God" (Psalm 46:10). All are welcome. For more information, contact Lynn at lebnab@optonline.net.

WORSHIP & ARTS
Volunteer your voice and make a joyful noise!
Drop-ins welcome at rehearsals every Thursday at 7 pm.

Come sing with us! Our Chancel Choir rehearses at 7 pm on Thursdays at 10 Academy Street. This lively group sings at worship services on Sundays at 10:30 am from September to June, as well as beautiful holiday services! Our Director of Music Tom McCoy is a well-known jazz pianist, and Tom curates an amazing range of music for the choir including folk, spirituals, contemporary, and classical works. Special music as well as beloved carols and hymns are a highlight of every Christmas and Easter season. Join us whenever the spirit moves you! For more information, contact Cathy at carnevalevmd@aol.com. You can also click here!
